ABOUT US

Who We Are & What We Do

We create safe, nurturing spaces where people can learn, thrive, and build a brighter future. Through education, creativity, well-being, and practical support, we aim to uplift those facing challenges and provide the tools they need to succeed.

We are dedicated to uplifting and supporting individuals from socially excluded and underrepresented communities. While our core approach involves multi-sports, we also incorporate dance, music, fashion, and culinary arts to actively engage young people in constructive, inclusive, and developmental experiences. Our primary goal is to strengthen the resilience and aspirations of the young people we serve, empowering them to lead fulfilling and successful lives.

Our Commitment

House of Mercy Community Engagement & Empowerment Service offers a tailored service for Black, Asian, and Minority Ethnic (BAME) youth in Stoke, who frequently encounter significant barriers and inequality. This focused work aligns with our broader mission of fostering community unity, as we use sport as a platform to connect young people of diverse backgrounds, encouraging shared values and a strong sense of belonging within their communities.

Our number one aim is to develop the resilience and ambition of the young people we work with so they can lead positive and successful lives.

Our Priorities

House of Mercy Community Engagement & Empowerment Service works in partnership with voluntary and statutory services, signposting clients and providing employment, education and training support. We also deliver outreach, mentoring, sports activities and emotional, practical and social support. A theoretical Model of Community Engagement underpins all of our work – the principle that communities are at the centre of design, development and delivery of all our projects and services. Our priorities are to tackle health inequalities, promote safer communities and improve social cohesion in the West Midlands area.

Community Liaison Model

We also implement the Community Liaison Model, which actively involves specific communities in awareness-raising, educational, and informational initiatives. These efforts are led by individuals from within the communities themselves. Those serving as community liaisons are selected based on their deep understanding of local dynamics, the trust they hold within the community, and their ability to reach, communicate with, and engage a broad range of community members. Their capacity and skills are developed to:
